One of the many positive benefits of being part of Ntech is that we have access to templates of policies and procedures as a starting point in developing these documents.

However, when adopting documents that were not initially developed within your organization, it is important to ensure that these documents mirror the practices within your organization.  Before adopting any document, it is important to modify them to ensure consistency with other policies, procedures and practices.  The following are some questions to consider when modifying or adopting policies and procedures:

  • Does this policy accurately reflect the practices at our agency?

  • Are job titles and other terminology in the document consistent with the terminology we use in our organization?  Have we changed the name of the organization referenced in the document to our name throughout the entire document?

  • How does this policy link or tie to our other policies? Do we need to make changes in either policy to ensure that the concepts are consistent?
  • How does this policy impact any of our contracts?  Are there any conflicts, or do we need to expand it to include the requirements of the contract?

  • Does this policy impact any other agreements?  How can we modify it so that it meets the requirements of any of these agreements?
  • Does our national organization have different requirements in this area?  How can we modify to include these requirements?
  • What are the reading levels of our employees?  Do we need visual aides that support those employees who are non-readers?  Is the policy written in a manner that is understandable to our employees?
